The premise
After the Pillar of Autumn reaches an artificial ringworld, the Master Chief and Cortana fight to preserve humanity's survivors while uncovering the Halo installation's real purpose.
Campaign Evolved keeps that narrative spine, refreshes its presentation, and introduces new playable material before the original story begins. This guide treats that outline as a reading order, not proof that every change will suit every player.
Ten classic missions return, rebuilt around Halo: Combat Evolved's original campaign arc.
Three new prequel missions place the Master Chief alongside Sgt. Johnson before the familiar campaign begins.
Updated cinematics, sound, environments and mission flow frame the same central mystery for a new generation.
How to read a remake
A feature list can say that weapons, spaces or missions changed, but it cannot explain whether a player still faces the same meaningful choices. The useful comparison is not simply old versus new: it is whether cover, shields, enemy roles, vehicles and sightlines still create a tactical problem worth solving.
Official sources establish what was announced. Source-labelled fan reports show what particular players encountered on a particular build, platform or connection. This site's editorial analysis connects those layers by asking what a change could mean for navigation, pacing or encounter choice. One layer must not impersonate another.
A useful first route
Start with the classic route if you want the campaign's escalation to remain visible: arrival, exploration, discovery, reversal and escape. It provides a baseline for judging later additions. When a new tool enters a familiar arena, ask whether it changes target priority, recovery space or the role of vehicles rather than merely adding spectacle.
The prequel material works best as context rather than a replacement for the central arc. Use the Mission index for spoiler-conscious preparation, Play Modes for choosing a solo, co-op or modifier route, and Community for dated player evidence with its original source and limits.
Campaign field guide
This page gives the high-level route. The next sections turn that route into a useful reading order without pretending an editorial overview is a full walkthrough.
The classic route remains the reference point: arrival, discovery, reversal and escape. This guide keeps that progression readable before it turns into a mission-by-mission resource.
The added prequel material is framed here as an opening context, not a replacement for the original campaign. Read it alongside the mission index when you want the full route.
Use the companion pages to separate a confirmed feature, a design interpretation and a changing player reaction before treating any of them as a final verdict.
