Halo Campaign Evolved Config: a safe Engine.ini tuning order

Halo Campaign Evolved config guide: start with the in-game video settings, then test a small Engine.ini change only if blur or mouse feel is still a problem. Keep a backup, change one variable at a time, and remove the file if the result is worse.

1. Record the baseline first

Before changing a config file, write down your resolution, display mode, frame cap, V-Sync or VRR setting, upscaling mode, GPU driver version, and the exact symptom. A blurry image, shimmer, frame-time hitch, and mouse latency can look related while having different causes.

  • Turn Motion Blur and Screen Shake off in the game first if those effects are the problem.
  • Restart the game after a video-setting change before judging it.
  • Test the same mission segment or training area for each change.

2. Find the configuration folder

On Windows, community configuration guides point to:

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Meteorite\Saved\Config\Windows

Create Engine.ini in that folder. Make sure Windows has not named it Engine.ini.txt. Copy your existing configuration somewhere safe before continuing.

3. Use a minimal clarity test

Paste only the visual lines below, launch the game, and compare the same scene. These settings are a player-tested starting point, not an official preset or a promise for every PC and patch.

[SystemSettings]
r.FilmGrain=0
r.Tonemapper.GrainQuantization=0
r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0
r.Tonemapper.Quality=0
r.Lumen.ScreenProbeGather.Temporal.MaxFramesAccumulated=12
r.Lumen.DiffuseIndirect.Temporal.MaxFramesAccumulated=12

If the image improves but produces new artifacts, remove the last setting you added and test again. Do not stack driver overrides, upscaling changes, and config edits in one pass; you will not know which one changed the result.

4. Test mouse response separately

If your issue is input feel rather than image clarity, add this block after the visual test has been evaluated:

[/script/engine.inputsettings]
bEnableMouseSmoothing=False
bViewAccelerationEnabled=False
bDisableMouseAcceleration=True

Use the same sensitivity, frame cap, and test route while comparing. If you play with a controller, leave this section out and focus on the in-game control and dead-zone settings instead.

5. Decide whether to keep it

  • Keep it only if the improvement repeats after a restart and in more than one area.
  • Revert it if performance, stability, or image artifacts get worse.
  • Share useful results with your platform, GPU, resolution, patch, and the exact setting that changed the outcome.

Blur and input lag: which Engine.ini tweaks helped?

I found two player-written Steam guides that point to the same config folder: C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Meteorite\Saved\Config\Windows. They suggest testing an Engine.ini for image clarity and mouse-response settings.

  • Film grain and chromatic aberration settings are the first things both guides discuss.
  • One guide also mentions mouse smoothing and mouse acceleration.
  • Please back up your existing config and test one change at a time.

Before editing Engine.ini, what fixed blurry graphics for you?

A Steam troubleshooting guide by Detective Grunty describes a longer route for blurry graphics: check the config path, create and protect an Engine.ini, then review in-game Motion Blur and Screen Shake.

Before changing files, back up your current configuration. This is one player experience, so it may not match every patch, PC, or setting combination.

Did an in-game option solve the blur for you, or did you need the config-file route?

Legendary difficulty: what loadout carried your run?

One Steam player guide recommends the Needle Rifle and Plasma Grenades for a difficult Legendary encounter, and suggests holding onto useful weapons through the bonus missions where possible.

What actually carried your run: a particular weapon, grenade choice, skull setup, route, or encounter order? Please add the mission and difficulty so another player can test it in the right context.
